The bead tool is usually used to represent seed beeds attached to cross stitch designs however the symbol could be used to indicate any type of bead or charm to be attached to the design.
Beads can be placed in as many colours as cross stitches and at any hole on an evenweave fabric. This allows for 9 possible positions within the area taken by one cross stitch.
